Police to set to beef opposition leaders security

The Police have confirmed reports of death threats against former Presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine.
Last week, Kampala Lord Mayor,
Erias Lukwago petitioned the Inspector General of Police to beef up his security, citing assassination threats against him via social media.
There were also reports that Besigye and Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) had received similar threats. Addressing a weekly press briefing on Monday, Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed that Police have indeed received the reports.
"Police received written notification from office of the Lord Mayor Kampala Capital City Authority on Wednesday June 27, 2018, Erias Lukwago stating that there were fears on his life and lives of Col. Besigye and Hon Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine," Kayima told journalists.
He added that the Inspector General of Police has already issued instructions to relevant officers to take the necessary action.
"These will include opening a GEF(general inquiry file) to investigate the death threats, studying and improving the security around the persons mentioned in the letter and closely working with them to ensure they are all protected," the police Spokesperson revealed.
The threats come barely a month after the assassination of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga on June 8. He was gunned down on his way home in Kawanda, Wakiso district.
