Two suspects steals gun from police station and escaped without trace

Police and the Army have embarked on a joint operation to re-arrest the two suspects who escaped from custody with a police firearm in Oyam district.
The suspects Robert Atim, 38 and Bernard Ochan, 30 all residents of Myene Sub County in Oyam District escaped from custody at Oyam CPS on Sunday evening.
They reportedly attacked a police Constable Daniel Aluku who was on guard duty and subsequently made away with his firearm number UG POL 564804 28-24076.
Aluku has since been held at Oyam CPS over negligence of duty.
John Peter Ematu, the North Kyoga Regional Police Commander says they have since mounted a joint manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
It not unclear on which offence the duo were arrested for.
This come at the time when the number of guns related crime is on increase in Uganda. The country is grappling with high levels of murders in which several high profile individuals have been gunned down by unknown assailants.
Monday morning  two heavily armed robbers carrying semi automatic machine guns raided Muto hardware in Masaka and made off with shs 400 million in cash. The robbers shot two security guard who were on duty killing them instantly.
In a statement, police said the robbers fled the scene in a saloon car that had no registration number plates to unknown direction.
