Uganda Cranes skipper Ausi is dead

Ausi Kaaya a former Uganda Cranes and proline football club player has died.He has died on Saturday evening at Mulago hospital .
Former Cranes midfielder, Ausi Kaaya, 35, passes on just hardly a month after the passing of former Sofapaka team captain Johnson Bagoole days after he was diagnosed with meningitis.
The Crane international was diagnosed with diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis in 2017 and required over Shs20m to undergo treatment to save the life of the star.
Despite the efforts, Kaaya’s health continued to deteriorate by the day.
A successful fundraising drive held in February 2018 started by Kaaya’s childhood friend, Mathias Lukwago generated close to Shs5M for his treatment that helped in his treatment at nsambye hospital.
Who is Ausi Kaya?
Kaaya was born on 1st April 1983 to Ahmed Mukasa and Madina Nakalema in the famous footballing hub of Kawempe division, a Kampala surburb
He studied at Kawempe Mbogo primary and Kawempe Muslim Secondary school until he successfully completed his advanced level education.
In his budding career, Kaaya was inspired by the legendary former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Ssekagya, now at New York Red Bull youth team as coach.
Kaaya’s potentiality as a promising defender was discovered by the late Steven ‘Gayiige’ Mulinde.
He had a blossom club and country career which witnessed him play at State House, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Police and lately Proline behind he hung up his playing boots.
Kaaya won two Uganda Premier League titles with Police 2005 and later at KCCA F.C in 2010 under head coach George ‘The Best’ Nsiimbe.
He also won the CECAFA clubs championship with Police.
His national team career witnessed him amass 35 caps, featuring in 8 CECAFA senior challenge cup tournaments with only one title in 2005.
Kaaya’s passing presents moment of reflection on the lives for many retired sportsmen whose lives are in misery after an hitherto promising career.
