Opposition leader arrested in Kampala

Democratic Party spokesman, Kenneth Kakande, has been arrested and is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station over land dispute.
Kampala metropolitan police spokesman, Mr Luke Oweyesigyire, said Mr Kakande was on Thursday arrested by residents in Kira Municipality where he had allegedly gone with a grader to clear a piece of land.
Police said Mr Kakande was surrounded by the reported land owner flanked by residents who dragged him to Jinja Road police accusing him of trespass.
"We have Mr Kakande at our Jinja Road Police Station on accusations of trespass. We're told he was clearing a piece of land which wasn't his and we're investigating this claim. We're have got statements from the eye witnesses," Mr Owoyesigyire said.
Sources said Mr Kakande had earlier been warned by the reported land owner but did not heed to the warning.
"This land was sold to an investor but the transaction mode is suspicious because Mr Kakande insists the land is his. We're now looking for more suspects in this case since it points to some fraud involved," a source who is part of the investigation, said.
Asked on whether there are other suspects being hunted, Mr Owoyesigyire said: "There are some suspects who had earlier been arrested over the same case but I don't have their details."
