NRM die hard drinks alcohol to death celebrating Independence day

A man believed to be aged 45-year-old died on Tuesday after excessive drinking alcohol according  to authorities as he celebrated Independence Day.

Richard Acire, a resident of Pabuga village, Atiak Sub-County in Amuru District, The  close relative narrates that Richard began drinking local brew (waragi) on Monday evening as he prepared to celebrate Uganda’s 56th independence anniversary which was celebrated on Tuesday October 9 in Kyotera District.

“He had Shs20, 000 on Monday and begun drinking waragi late in the evening. He never ate anything despite being told to do so. On Tuesday morning, he was again seen drinking but he got too weak. We had to rush him to the health centre for medical attention,” one of his relatives told this reporter on condition of anonymity.
“He was telling everyone that he wanted to set a record in celebrating the independence,” the relative added.
Ms Agness Lanyero, a nursing officer at Atiak Health Centre IV said Acire’s death was as a result of excessive consumption of alcohol.

“We believe the alcohol he took was too much given the fact that he didn’t eat anything. He died 30 minutes after he was brought here by his relatives,”
she added.
Ms Lanyero, however, said that they are yet to carry out a postmortem on the deceased to ascertain his exact cause of death.

Mr Wilfred Odiya Baguma, the Atiak LCIII chairperson said Acire was an alcohol addict.

“It’s true that the deceased used to drink a lot, but he had a lot of problems with taking his ARVs, that could have brought in a lot of complications,” Mr Baguma said.
